A 43-year-old Texas man is recovering after he was mauled by an aggressive pit bull while walking his own dog on January 28.
The victim and his wife were walking their pet dog in the 8400 block of Shooter Cove in San Antonio when Veronica Elizabeth Polley’s violent pit bull attacked their dog.
The man rushed to rescue his pet but was instead caught by the grey-and-white pit bull that dragged him to the ground and ravaged his face.
The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office said the victim suffered “serious facial injuries” to his mouth, chin, and cheek.
Polley, 39, was arrested on Thursday and her bond was later set at $85,000. Her dog remains in quarantine in the custody of Bexar County Animal Control.
The community expressed compassion toward the victim while calling for the owner to be held accountable.
“I hope they sue the hell out of her. His medical bills are going to be expensive. The poor man is going to need reconstructive surgeries,” one said.
“If you have a dog (regardless of breed) that can get aggressive, you have a huge responsibility to the community to keep them contained,” another added.
