A St. Louis woman was killed and her elderly husband injured after they were attacked by three dogs in their backyard Wednesday night.
Officers responded to reports of a shooting at the address on Theodore Avenue at around 11:45 p.m. and soon learned that dogs were attacking a woman at the scene.
The 62-year-old deaf woman was heavily bleeding when officers arrived. Her husband, 73, was also injured but still fending off the dogs with a broom.
Police learned that the man fired a shot to scare the animals to no avail.
First responders rushed the woman into the home and applied tourniquets before taking her to a hospital where she died.
The three dogs were taken into the custody of animal control services as the incident remains under investigation.
