A Florida man was charged with his wife’s murder after investigators determined the woman did not take her own life as he claimed.
Miljka Maksic, 76, was found in a “supine position in a pool of blood” when officers responded to a family friend’s call early Sunday morning.
Her husband, 88-year-old Miroslav Maksic had called the friend telling them that his wife had committed suicide.
Investigators noted several inconsistencies at the scene regarding the used hand and the bullet’s trajectory.
“Several things weren’t adding up…So, as the investigation continued it ultimately [led] to the arrest of the husband in this case,” said North Port Police Department’s Josh Taylor.
Maksic kept changing his statements “several times” and appeared in “a state of confusion.”
“This is a tragic situation, but I’m thankful for the dedicated work of our investigators and the Medical Examiner’s Office who worked diligently to quickly uncover the truth,” NPPD Chief Todd Garrison said.
