An Ohio Sheriff’s deputy took his own life Monday after fatally shooting his girlfriend of a year, authorities in Stow said.
Officers were sent to the couple’s home after relatives of Latoia Philpott found her and Benjamin Asiedu dead after going to check on them.

The Medical Examiner’s Officer ruled Philpott’s death a murder after she was shot several times. Asiedu’s death was deemed a suicide.
The mother-of-five’s family asked for privacy as they “navigate this difficult loss and make arrangements.”
Asiedu was sworn in as a Summit County Sheriff’s deputy in October 2023. He worked as a detention officer in the juvenile court system.
