A New Jersey man was taken into custody after he allegedly stabbed a woman and two young children to death inside a home early on Thursday.

Jersey City Police officers found the bodies of an adult woman, and two children aged 5 and 9 years old deceased inside a basement apartment on Hutton Street.

All victims had stab wounds. A male suspect was also found with self-inflicted stab wounds and arrested at the scene.

“This was a terrible triple homicide that occurred last night related to domestic violence,” said Mayor Steven Fulop.

Police later identified the victims as Luisa Urbano, 31, and her two children, Juan Martin Urbano and Diana Ramirez.

“There was some screaming going on because that’s when I guess there was the discovery of the kids and mom,” another added.

Neighbors said the suspect was a family member but not the father of either child.

“He was out of it…he wanted to hurt himself, and once you get to that point your mental faculties are gone. There is nothing you can say to him.”
