An elderly Florida woman was stabbed to death by a man she allowed into her home to help him “get back on his feet”, police said.
Toby White, 31, allegedly stabbed 77-year-old Lucy Reed several times with a butcher knife in front of her horrified husband on Jan. 20.
“I did what you wanted,” the suspect reportedly said after the slaying.
“The husband of the victim said when he asked him why did you do that, (White) said God told him to,” Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bon Johnson said. “That was his answer.”
The couple was watching TV inside their home when White came in and started attacking the woman “without any provocation”.
“I can’t imagine what it’s like seeing your wife stabbed, pretty much to death, in front of you,” the sheriff added.
The couple allowed White to live in a camper on their property and enter their house until he “gets back on his feet” after meeting him through a mutual friend.
“You don’t know who to trust anymore,” a neighbor commented. “I used to see him walking up and down the road, I didn’t know anything was wrong with him. You never know.”
