A patient at a Queens psychiatric facility is accused of fatally stabbing his roommate late Sunday, police said.
Ronald Giacopelli, 63, was found face down, deceased from several stab wounds to the back and neck in the room he shared with the 23-year-old suspect, David Zheng, at Creedmoor Psychiatric Center.
Police recovered a knife from the scene. They said Zheng had no recollection of the crime and that both patients suffered from serious mental illness.
“They seemed to be very happy,” a resident of the facility described the two men.
“They were good friend, but David didn’t take his medication. They were always calling him over the loudspeaker to come and get it.”
Zheng “looked like nothing happened, like it was all normal” when brought out by police the witness said.
“The two of them, they were always together. I’m shocked. I can’t believe it. They were good friends.”
