An Arizona woman’s family found her dead in her Glendale apartment Tuesday after they traveled to attend her graduation ceremony later this week.
Monet Newton, 24, did not show up at the airport to pick up her family members, raising their concerns.
They went to her apartment and found her deceased along with her ex-boyfriend, 22-year-old Chase Cooper.
Police believe Cooper carried out the murder-suicide, shooting Newton and himself to death.
Investigators learned that Newton and Cooper split up recently after a brief romantic relationship.
Newton graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and business management from Grand Canyon University.
She was set to receive her master’s degree in industrial psychology later this week.
“This family was getting ready to celebrate something so special something that she worked so hard for and the celebration turned to tragedy immediately,” said Jose Santiago, of the Glendale Police.
