Driver gunned down after plowing truck into busy Killeen mall hurting 5 people: ‘It could have been much worse’

A driver fleeing law enforcement plowed his pickup truck into a busy mall in Killeen, Texas hurting five people, police said Saturday.

The driver, who has yet to be identified, was fleeing state troopers trying to initiate a traffic stop over suspicion of DUI at around 5 p.m.

Police said the driver drove through the parking lot of the Killeen Mall and rammed through glass doors driving his truck “several hundred yards” through the mall.

    “Thankfully he was stopped when he was, because it could have been so much worse,” said Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Bryan Washko.

    “This mall is pretty busy at this time of year.”

    The victims ranged in age from 6 to 75. Four of them were transported to the hospital while a fifth sought treatment on their own.
