A 16-month-old Georgia boy died Tuesday at a daycare after choking on watermelon, his grieving parents said.
Taylor Hicks and Jamal Bryant said that they received a call Tuesday afternoon from the Kids Nest Learning Center in Brunswick asking them to go to a hospital where their child fought for life.
Police said the victim, Jamal Allen Bryant Jr., choked on watermelon adding that staff tried to revive him. He was declared dead at the hospital.
The parents questioned the staff’s intervention since according to reports from the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning, the facility did not meet first aid and CPR requirements.
Jamal Bryant urged parents to research about the childcare facilities they plan to sign their kids up in.
“He was full of energy. He was full of life. He loved his family. His mom, dad, grandmas. He cried a lot, loved to dance,” the devastated father said of his late son. “Don’t take life for granted.”
