Demopolis news, Alabama news.

An Alabama family is still reeling from anguish after their beloved baby son died tragically in an apparent homicide at a Demopolis daycare on March 25.

Brayden Paul Roberston was a healthy 5-month-old boy when his parents dropped him off at Tender Years Preschool & Nursery that morning.

In the afternoon, the daycare called his mother at work to tell her he was unresponsive. She was there in three minutes.

“I saw his lifeless body on the changing table as they were trying to do life-saving measures,” Taylor recalled.

Investigators allege Brayden was killed by Versa Mae Simmons, an employee at the daycare who now faces murder and child abuse charges.

“Monsters come in all shapes and sizes and people you never would think, so don’t be fooled,” Taylor added.

“He didn’t have a voice. He couldn’t tell me ‘Momma, I don’t want to go here.’ Every afternoon he would light up when we would go pick him up, either one, and of course you just think that’s your baby excited to see you,” the grieving woman said.

“But now as a mother, it makes me wonder, are you so excited because I’m finally taking you away from something that you don’t like.”
