Daycare worker charged with murder after infant’s death deemed homicide in Alabama

An Alabama daycare worker was arrested this week after an infant’s death was ruled a homicide.

The victim was found unresponsive at Tender Years daycare in Demopolis Monday afternoon.

All life-saving efforts administered at the scene were unsuccessful. The infant was declared dead at Whitefield Memorial Hospital.

    Investigators determined through video footage from the daycare and personnel questioning that the baby’s death was a homicide.

    68-year-old Versa Mae Simmons was subsequently arrested and charged with murdering the infant.

    Demopolis authorities declined to release information about the victim and the case citing the ongoing investigation.
