Authorities in New Mexico arrested a 24-year-old man accused of gunning down his parents and teen sister over the weekend.
The family’s landlord called 911 to report hearing gunshots sending Bernalillo County deputies to the crime scene.
Deputies located Adlai Mestre, 24, at the home covered in blood and in possession of ammunition and a gun.
The man admitted to shooting dead his father, 46-year-old Raymundo Mestre; his mother, 51-year-old Bertha Mestre, and 17-year-old sister, Breille Mestre.
The victims’ bodies were found face down in the ravine about 30 yards from their home.
Mestre admitted to dragging the bodies to the ravine while planning to bury them there.
The suspect also shot the family dog that had to be euthanized due to the severity of its injuries.
Sheriff John Allen said that Mestre had previously been at Haven Behavioral Hospital of Albuquerque but had never expressed homicidal or suicidal thoughts.
