Prominent journalist slaughtered by teen son while hiking in California mountains

A prominent British journalist who covered international events such as the Yugoslavia conflict and the fall of the Berlin Wall was slaughtered by his son during a hike in California.

Paul Lowe, 60, was found dead with “trauma to his upper torso” on a road near Stoddard Canyon Falls on Saturday.

Authorities said he died from a stab wound to the neck and arrested a 19-year-old suspect, later identified as Lowe’s son, in connection to the killing.

The teen was seen driving away from the crime scene before he got involved in a crash.

    The slain victim was a professor at the University of the Arts London College of Communications and had several books including the “Bosnians” that documented the decade-long war in Bosnia.

    “Paul was a very talented, courageous, and committed photojournalist who repeatedly put himself in harm’s way to show the world the reality of war zones and humanitarian crises around the world,” said former colleague and vice president of photography at the AP Santiago Lyon.

    “He then became an accomplished and well-respected educator dedicated to preparing future generations of photojournalists.”

    “His untimely death has profoundly affected the photojournalism community and we are in shock.”
