Former One Direction star Liam Payne fell to his death from a hotel room in Argentina late Wednesday, state police said.

The 31-year-old was acting erratically before his fatal plunge from the third-floor room of CasaSur in Palermo, Buenos Aires where he’s been staying.

Alberto Crescenti, the Buenos Aires Emergency Medical Services director, said Payne sustained “very serious” injuries that were “incompatible with life” and was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:11 p.m. local time.
