Two children were killed in a hillside collapse in Shasta County, California, authorities said Thursday.
The children were reportedly caught in rocks and debris when the hillside collapsed downstream on the Shasta Dam at around 9 a.m.

The victims’ bodies were recovered after the water levels of Shasta Lake were reduced.
“The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office and allied agencies extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims,” the sheriff’s office stated.
The victims’ names and ages were not immediately made public as the investigation into the incident continues.
