A female student was shot and killed on campus when an armed intruder broke into the Kennesaw State University Saturday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 4 p.m. near the South Campus housing area, sending the campus into a brief lockdown.
“Kennesaw State can confirm that a female student was fatally shot on campus,” the school said in a statement. “A suspect has been detained.”

Less than an hour later, the school gave an “all clear” informing students that the suspect was “no longer a threat to campus.”
The Georgia Bureau of Investigations and university police are investigating.
The KSU Student Affairs said on social media that counseling was made available for students.
