Marengo news, Ohio news.

A Morrow County Sheriff’s deputy was fatally shot in the line of duty late Monday while responding to a domestic violence call, Ohio authorities said.

Deputy Daniel Sherrer, 31, “always had a smile on his face” and was “never in a bad mood” since joining the department in March 2021, Sheriff John Hinton said.

Hinton said Sherrer was shot shortly after arriving at the scene. The suspect was reportedly wounded, and both were rushed to a hospital where Sherrer died.

“You will never hear his name come from my lips, so if you want the name, you will have to get it some other way. I’m not giving it to you. Why would I? He doesn’t deserve it,” he said.

Hinton said Sherrer’s loss was a tough blow for the department, but his colleagues still showed up to work because “that’s what we have to do, it’s what he would have wanted.”
