An infant was mauled to death by her family’s dog at an apartment in NYCHA’s Queensbridge North Houses in Queens, police said Tuesday.
The 6-week-old victim was sleeping with her 26-year-old mother and stepdad in a bed when the dog attacked her and bit her face at around 6:30 a.m.
Police pronounced the baby dead at the scene. No arrests were made in connection with the incident.
The adoptive mother of the victim’s mom said that the family was living in a shelter with an older child.
“I asked her if she wanted to give me the baby. She said no, she’d take care of her. She would manage,” the woman said of the new mother.
“How could they have a dog with a baby? The dog shouldn’t be in the house.”
“It would be better if she gave me the baby. This wouldn’t have happened.”
