Authorities in Waterbury, Connecticut, are investigating a “shooting incident” that left five people injured at a local mall Tuesday afternoon.
The shooting occurred at around 4:40 p.m. at Brass Mill Center mall in Waterbury, officials said.
Five people were injured but are not considered in critical condition. A person of interest has been apprehended.
Investigators said the shooting was triggered by an altercation at the mall. The gunman was reportedly armed with a semi-automatic pistol.
“We do not believe this was a random act of violence,” police said.
Gov. Ned Lamont thanked law enforcement for their swift response to the “tragic mass shooting.”
“Our hearts break for the Waterbury community, the victims, and their families who have been impacted by this incident.”
