Florida boy, 17, charged with murder in fatal shooting of Lyft driver

A Florida boy was arrested and charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a Lyft driver early Saturday morning.

Bay County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the incident at Wilwood Road and Emerald Cove Street in Panama City Beach at around 2:24 a.m.

The victim was found lying on the road with a fatal gunshot wound. He died at a local hospital.

His car was located about 100 yards away from the murder scene, riddled with bullet holes and covered with blood.

    The suspect was later identified as 17-year-old Brayden Raul Gomez. He was located on Dorothy Avenue and arrested.

    Detectives said Gomez allegedly killed the Lyft driver as he drove him to a requested destination.

    “Our hearts are with [the victim’s] family and loved ones in the midst of this terrible tragedy,” a Lyft spokesperson said.

    “We have reached out to offer support to them during this difficult time and are assisting law enforcement in their ongoing investigation.”
