A Florida teen was taken into custody after he allegedly admitted to stabbing his octogenarian roommate to death over the weekend.
18-year-old Moses Ojeda was arrested Sunday and charged with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence over the fatal stabbing of 81-year-old Patrick Benway.
The suspect had only moved into the “group home” on Blue Bird Avenue in Bartow one day before the murder after his release from a hospital.
Ojeda allegedly stabbed Benway 113 times in his bedroom before washing the knife in the victim’s bathroom and replacing it in the butcher block in the kitchen.
The teen killer reportedly told detectives that Benway asked him, “Why would you want to do this to me?” before dying.
Ojeda allegedly described Benway as “a good person” adding that he “did not have any problems with the victim” but wanted to kill him “because he was ‘already dying.’”
“It’s like the devil showed up at the door and rocked everybody’s world and took an innocent man’s life,” the landlord of the home said through tears.
“He was very happy where he was at. My mama had just talked to him the day before, and he was just, he was just real happy.”
