A Texas man fatally stabbed a bus rider before telling police that he committed the crime because of the resemblance between the victim and his uncle.
Deepak Kandel, 31, was charged with murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of Akshay Gupta, 30, that occurred on a CapMetro bus Wednesday evening.
First responders rushed to the scene on South Lawar Boulevard at 6:45 p.m. and tried saving Gupta, who was pronounced dead at 7:30 p.m.
“Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists responded to process the scene and interview witnesses,” Austin police said.
“The investigation showed the suspect, later identified as Deepak Kandel had been sitting next to Mr. Gupta on the bus when, without provocation, Kandel stabbed Mr. Gupta in the neck,”
“Once the bus was stopped, Kandel calmly exited the bus with the other passengers and left the scene on foot.”
Officers located Kandel and arrested him shortly later. He reportedly admitted to killing Gupta because of “him resembling his uncle.”
