Arizona man fatally shoots landscaper sent to trim trees in his front yard

An Arizona man shot and killed a landscaper on Monday, believing him to be a suspected burglar who vandalized his trailer days earlier.

Wyatt Ford, 28, insisted he “didn’t mean” to shoot 51-year-old Manuel Vega Lopez after a confrontation outside his home on Ironhorse Road in Gilbert.

  • Ford’s wife called 911 about the confrontation, telling dispatchers that her husband was armed and believed Lopez was the man who stole from their trailer days earlier.

    The renter couple’s landlord had sent them a message notifying them that he was sending a landscaper to trim the trees on the front yard.

    Police found landscaping tools in Lopez’s truck. Ford was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
