A 14-year-old Missouri boy drowned Friday after he jumped into a lake and never resurfaced, authorities said.
The boy’s body was recovered from Table Rock Lake shortly before 9 p.m.
First responders were called to the area of the Missouri 39 bridge in Shell Knob at around 1 p.m. over reports of a drowning.
The boy had jumped into the lake from a nearby dock and began struggling before going underwater.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the boy drowned a short distance from the dock.
Later on Friday, a vigil was held for the victim’s family.
“The turnout and support at the vigil were both moving and powerful,” the fire district said.
“It was a beautiful show of unity, though we deeply wish it had been under different circumstances.”
