Two Virginia Beach Police officers were gunned down during a traffic stop late Friday, officials said.
On a social media post, the Virginia Beach Police Department announced the two fatalities without elaborating on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“We are unable to share much information at this time as this is still very much an active investigation,” the statement read.
“However, we want to assure the community that there is no active threat.”
Local news outlets said the shooting occurred at around 11:30 p.m. Friday. The department asked for patience as they investigate the incident and “grieve the loss of their own.”
“As we await more information, please join me in praying for their loved ones and the Virginia Beach Police Department,” said Re. Jen Kiggans.
“Let justice be swift for those responsible.”
