L.I. man, 73, takes own life after fatally shooting wife of 20 years

A Long Island couple was found dead in an apparent murder-suicide inside their Islip home on Tuesday, officials said.

William Clifford, 73, took his own life after fatally shooting 68-year-old Eileen Clifford, his wife of 20 years, police said.

The couple’s bodies were found at their home on Parsons Landing, a quiet residential neighborhood in Islip.

  • Police received a 911 call reporting a man with a gunshot wound outside the home at around 6:30 a.m.

    Officers found William’s body outside the residence with a gun at his feet. His wife’s body was located inside the home.

    Neighbors described the Cliffords as a “very nice” and “friendly” couple. They reportedly had no history of domestic violence.

    “We don’t have anything happen here,” a resident of “very quiet and sleepy” neighborhood added.
