A Maryland woman convicted of killing her elderly mother in 2023 and dismembering her body with a chainsaw has been sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole.
Candace Craig, 46, asphyxiated her 71-year-old mother, Margaret Craig, in May 2023 after she confronted her about fraudulent credit cards and threatened to alert police.
The daughter then dismembered her mother’s body and burned the remains on a barbecue grill. A week later, police found the victim’s remains in the basement of her home.
Assistant State’s Attorney Shauna Coleman said Candace tried to blame her three daughters for the gruesome murder.
“The fact that she would do this to her own children, her own mother, is beyond the realm of words,”
“This happens in movies and books, not in real life.”
