A South Carolina couple was charged with homicide by child abuse in connection to the December death of their 7-month-old daughter.
On Dec. 18, 2024, first responders found Caleb and Kyla Nix performing CPR on their infant Sage Nix in the kitchen of their home.
The girl died shortly after arriving at Prisma Health Parkridge Campus. A months-long investigation into the child’s death then began.
Coroner Nadia Rutherford ultimately determined the girl died from trauma to the head and ruled the death a homicide.
“Before I’m going to write homicide on any child’s death certificate I’m going to be sure about the information we include on it,” Rutherford said Friday.
Caleb Nix, 22, and Kyla Nix, 24, were arrested on Valentine’s Day and booked into the Richland County Jail on charges of homicide by child abuse.
