US news.

Thirty central and eastern states are under blizzard conditions as America braces for the coldest storm since 2011.

The National Weather Service warned that states from eastern Colorado to Massachusetts will see freezing temperatures and icy weather brought by Storm Blair.

Temperatures are set to drop down to 20F in Kansas, 24F in Kentucky, and 13F in Virginia.

Snowfall could reach unprecedented levels this weekend making travel “very difficult to impossible”, the NWS said.

“Get where you’re going now and stay put. If you must travel, consider packing a bag and staying where you’re headed,” the Missouri Department of Transportation posted on social media.

Weather experts explained that a polar vortex stretching down from the North Pole is responsible for the extreme conditions that placed tens of millions of Americans under blizzard warnings this weekend.

According to AccuWeather Director of Forecast Operations Dan DePodwin, this week could be the coldest in the US since 2011 with “temperatures that are well below historical average.”
