A pregnant California teacher died this week days after she fell down a gorge while hiking on the Greek island of Crete.
Clara Thomann, 33, was six months pregnant when she “slipped and fell” more than 160 feet down a gorge two days before Christmas.
The Dos Pueblos High School teacher lost her baby and suffered multiple fractures to her skull and chest.
Doctors pronounced her brain-dead on Dec. 29. Her organs were donated and on Friday, her remains were cremated along with her unborn baby in Athens.
“Despite the best efforts of many doctors, we lost ‘Crunch Wrap’, our baby,” Thomann’s family said.
“The injuries Clara sustained are insurmountable and she was declared brain dead…we are all heartbroken.”
