Boyfriend arrested after woman found dismembered at South Dakota home

The boyfriend of a South Dakota woman was taken into custody hours after her headless body was discovered at her Yankton home, police said.

Police were called to the gruesome scene by three women who reported finding the dismembered body of 41-year-old Heather Bodden at her residence.

The women told detectives Bodden had sent them messages about her boyfriend threatening her with a weapon on Wednesday.

  • Craig Allen Nichols Jr., 32, was caught on surveillance footage entering and leaving Bodden’s home with two men.

    The men told investigators they were there with the couple for drug use. They added that Bodden was alive when they left.

    Nichols was also caught leaving the residence with two trash bags in tow early Thursday.

    He reportedly barricaded himself in his home, a mile from the crime scene, but was later apprehended and charged with second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter.
