Authorities in Miami-Dade are investigating a shocking discovery Tuesday after a severed human head washed ashore a local beach.
Key Biscayne Police covered the head with a blue tarp after making the gruesome discovery behind the Key Colony II Ocean Sound condominium building at 251 Crandon Boulevard.
“Everybody is extremely surprised, it’s highly unusual to find a body part on the beach,” a resident said.
Another resident called the incident “quite disturbing.”
“This is my typical route. Our neighborhood is very safe. We have our children here; our children play on these beaches and it’s just beyond belief.”
A spokesperson said that Miami-Dade Police homicide detectives are still investigating.
“Detectives are on scene and are working with the Medical Examiner to determine the identity of the individual.”
