Remains of hunter found in Alaska after suspected bear attack

The remains of a missing hunter were found in the Sitka area of Alaska Wednesday morning after a suspected bear mauling incident.

Alaska State Troopers were notified of an overdue hunter at around 6:17 p.m.

50-year-old Tad Fujioka did not return from a deer hunting trip in the Sitka area about 600 miles southeast of Anchorage.

  • “On Oct. 30, 2024, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, USCG, and Sitka SAR, conducted land-based searches utilizing three search teams in the remote wooded area that were transported by AWT Patrol Vessel and Sitka SAR vessel,” officials said.

    “At approximately 11:30 am, search teams located Fujioka’s remains. Investigation revealed he was the likely victim of a fatal bear mauling.”

    The victim’s body was recovered and his family has been notified, authorities said.
