2 corrections officers stabbed; 3 injured in violence at Massachusetts max-security prison

Two corrections officers were stabbed and three others were hurt responding to an inmate attack at a Massachusetts maximum-security prison Wednesday afternoon.

The inmate assault occurred at the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center in Lancaster shortly before 6:20 p.m.

“The facility is secure at this time while an investigation is conducted to determine the facts and circumstances,” said Scott Croteau, the spokesman for the state’s Executive Office of Public Safety and Security.

    “The dangers that currently exist cannot be overstated,” the Mass. Correction Officers Federated Union said earlier this month.

    “We just want to ensure we are given the tools to do our jobs and go home safely to our families.”
