The mayor of Atlantic City and his school superintendent wife were arrested this week and indicted on child abuse charges.

Mayor Marty Small Sr., 50, and La’Quetta Small, 47, have been accused of mistreating and abusing their teen daughter in December 2023 and January 2024.

The couple allegedly punched the then 15-year-old girl on multiple occasions, prosecutors said citing a January 13 incident that allegedly saw the mayor hitting his daughter “multiple times in the head with a broom causing her to lose consciousness.”

His wife allegedly dragged the girl by her hair, punched her in the mouth, and struck her with a belt during arguments.

The parents denied the allegations last April and their attorney insisted that they were “absolutely innocent” on Wednesday.

The couple was on Tuesday indicted by a grand jury for second-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
