FDNY EMT suffers cardiac arrest; dies suddenly while on duty

A FDNY EMT died of a sudden cardiac attack while on duty in the Bronx on Friday, authorities said.

43-year-old Frederick Whiteside, a 22-year veteran of the department, suffered a medical emergency while working at a 911 dispatch center.

“This is a heartbreaking loss for New York’s Bravest, and for our entire city,” said Mayor Eric Adams.

    Whiteside leaves behind his daughter, mother, and brother. Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh called him a “dedicated public servant and front-line worker.”

    “We are saddened by his sudden passing and join his family and friends in mourning his loss.”
