A Texas man was arrested this weekend after his 5-year-old stepdaughter accidentally shot herself at a northwest Harris County home.
The shooting occurred overnight on Parasol Lane off of West Road near Fairbanks North Houston Road, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said.
Deputies responded to the incident after a 5-year-old girl found a gun and shot herself.

The girl was rushed to the hospital and underwent surgery and is expected to survive.
Gonzalez said the girl’s stepfather, 32, was arrested on charges of felon in possession of a weapon and possession of controlled substances.
The sheriff added that more children were at the home at the time of the shooting.
