Day after death of Syracuse University student, another freshman dies at campus

In a statement, Syracuse University officials announced the sudden death of one of its freshmen a few hours after another died while riding a skateboard near the campus.

According to Dean of Students Marianne Thomson, the 18-year-old freshman was identified as John “Jack” Lundin of Tuckahoe.

He had left this world in Flint Hall campus last Wednesday night “unexpectedly.”

The late student was attending the Newhouse School of Public Communications.

The cause of his death was not yet revealed by school officials.

  • “We offer our sincerest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to John’s family, friends, and loved ones,” Thompson told news outlets.

    “We keep all those who knew and loved John in our thoughts and prayers as they grieve this unimaginable loss.”

    John was the second first-year student who lost his life in the establishment.

    One day earlier, 19-year-old Trevor Pierce was declared dead after being hit by a trolley while riding a skateboard.

    “This is an especially difficult week for our community as we mourn the loss of two young lives.”
