President Donald Trump pleaded with Russian President Vladimir Putin to stop his attacks on Ukraine after a bloody overnight attack left at least nine people dead and more than 70 injured.
“I am not happy with the Russian strikes on Kyiv. Not necessary, and very bad timing. Vladimir, STOP!” Trump wrote on social media.
Russia’s attacks on Kyiv, the bloodiest since last summer, came hours after Trump lashed out at Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for refusing to recognize the Russian occupation of Crimea.
Zelensky cut short a diplomatic trip to South Africa on Thursday after the attack, calling on the U.S. and Europe to force Russia to accept a ceasefire.
“Greater pressure on (Russia)…can bring the two sides closer,” Zelensky said.
