A pilot was killed in a plane crash Thursday while preparing for an upcoming air show in Virginia, officials said.
The experimental MX Aircraft MXS crashed around noon while landing at Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Hampton.
The pilot, who has not been identified, was the sole occupant of the doomed aircraft.
He was reportedly preparing for the Air Power Over Hampton Roads show set to start this weekend at the military base.
“Today, we lost a friend of our Air Force family. On behalf of our entire JBLE team, I want to express our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of this incredible aviator,” Joint Base Langley-Eustis commander Col. Matthew Altman said.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
