Pilot dies in plane crash while preparing for Virginia air show

A pilot was killed in a plane crash Thursday while preparing for an upcoming air show in Virginia, officials said.

The experimental MX Aircraft MXS crashed around noon while landing at Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Hampton.

The pilot, who has not been identified, was the sole occupant of the doomed aircraft.

    “Today, we lost a friend of our Air Force family. On behalf of our entire JBLE team, I want to express our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of this incredible aviator,” Joint Base Langley-Eustis commander Col. Matthew Altman said.

    The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
