4 killed after small plane crashes into field in central Illinois

Four people were killed early Saturday when a small plane crashed into a field in central Illinois, authorities said.

The Cessna C180G aircraft plunged into a field after hitting powerlines near the unincorporated community of Trilla just after 10 a.m. Saturday, the National Transportation Safety Board said.

The Coles County Coroner’s Office said the victims were two men and two women.

  • Their identities were not immediately disclosed pending next-of-kin’s notification.

    “Terrible news out of Coles County,” Gov. JB Pritzker announced on social media, adding that his “administration is monitoring the situation as we keep those impacted by the plane crash in our thoughts today.”

    “Thank you to the first responders who rushed to the scene. Please follow the guidance of officials as they provide assistance.”

    The NTSB and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the crash.
