A worker was killed by a reversing box truck at a Staten Island Amazon warehouse late Wednesday night, authorities said.
Leony Salcedo-Chevalier, 34, was in the loading dock of the JFK8-Amazon Fulfillment Center when he was struck by a backing-up box truck just before 11 p.m.
The victim was rushed to Richmond University Medical Center, where he died.
“Last night a worker went in to JFK8 for his shift, to make money to take care of his family, and he won’t be coming home,” a warehouse associate wrote on Facebook.
“He was 34 years old. He had two daughters. He was killed on the job.”
The victim and the driver of the box truck were not Amazon employees but worked for a freight company. He lived in New Jersey.
“This is a horrible tragedy, and our thoughts are with all those involved,” Amazon spokeswoman Sharyn Ghacham said.
“We’re supporting law enforcement as they investigate further.”
