Hammer-wielding son arrested after allegedly killing mother in garage

A Texas man was arrested after he allegedly killed his mother in the garage of the home they shared late Wednesday.

Eva Peavy’s stepson found her dead in the garage of the Cloverleaf area home and called the police at around 10 p.m.

The stepson told detectives that Peavy’s biological son, Jarell Joseph, had been acting strangely and was holding a hammer.

  • When deputies located Joseph, he was still wielding the hammer and walking in and out of the home. He was reportedly cooperative with deputies’ orders.

    “He put it down and cooperated and was detained without incident,” Harris County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Ritchie said.

    “After that, EMS and patrol were able to go inside the house, and she was in the garage.”

    The victim was described as in her late 60s or early 70s. the hammer may be the crime weapon but the cause and manner of death remain unclear.
