New York authorities identified on Thursday the headless torso found inside a suitcase floating in the East River last week.
Edwin Echevarria, 65, was beaten and stabbed to death, the NYPD said. His body was then dismembered with the headless torso stuffed inside a sleeping bag.

The remains were found a week ago inside a suitcase floating near Governor’s Island.
The victim’s roommate, 23-year-old Christian Millet, was arrested at his Baruch Houses Building on Columbia Street and charged with murder on Wednesday.
Investigators did not disclose what triggered the murder or when it took place.
