Driver traveling 99 mph crashes into car killing grandma, 3 children: ‘Worst accident that we had to investigate

The driver who rear-ended a family car in Miami Gardens Saturday evening was reportedly traveling at 99 mph on a city street.

Rosa Jones, 51, was taking her grandchildren to a movie for a 10-year-old’s birthday celebration when Antonio Wilcox’s Kia Sorrento rear-ended her Nissan Altima.

The victims’ car then struck a Cadillac Escalade. Jones, and three of her grandchildren, aged between 10 and 8, were killed in the crash.

A 13-year-old sibling was left brain dead, fighting for life. The children’s mother and her partner and a 7-year-old family friend are listed in critical condition.

  • “Mr. Wilcox was driving at approximately 99 mph, accelerating at the point of impact, the accelerator was all the way down,” said Police Executive Officer Emmanuel Jeanty on Tuesday.

    “Mr. Wilcox made a conscious decision to get into that vehicle and drive in a reckless manner with no regard to human life,”

    “In my law enforcement career, this has been the worst accident that I have witnessed and as a matter of fact, our traffic homicide detective had even stated the same, in their many years of investigating these types of crashes, the detective even stated this was the worst accident that he had to investigate.”

    Alcohol was reportedly involved in the deadly crash. Wilcox was taken into custody on four counts of vehicular homicide in a reckless manner.
