An Indiana man who was recently pardoned by Donald Trump was shot dead during a traffic stop last weekend.
Matthew Huttle, 42, was killed during an altercation with a Jasper County Sheriff’s deputy Sunday.
“The investigation also shows that during the traffic stop, the suspect was in possession of a firearm,” state police said.
“Our condolences go out to the family of the deceased as any loss of a life is traumatic to those that were close to Mr. Huttle,” Sheriff Patrick Williamson said.
Huttle was sentenced to six months in 2023 after he pleaded guilty to entering a restricted building, the U.S. Capitol.
On Jan. 6. 2021, he had traveled to the Capitol with his uncle to attend the pro-Trump rally that quickly erupted into chaos, and was inside the Capitol for 16 minutes.
“He is not a true believer in any political cause,” his defense attorney Andrew Hemmer told the court.
“He instead went to the rally because he thought it would be a historic moment and he had nothing better to do after getting out of jail.”
