An off-duty Nevada Police officer and his wife intervened to save a woman from an assailant, shooting the suspect dead Friday morning.
The officer and his wife saw the suspect punching and strangling a woman in a neighboring yard in the 700 block of 6th Street in Boulder City.
“The off-duty officer went outside and observed a male mounted on top of a female, punching and strangling her at the same time,” LVMPD Capt. Kurt McKenzie said.
The officer intervened telling his wife to call 911 and rescued the victim, but the suspect followed him to his front yard.
The cop warned the suspect “numerous” times that he would shoot if he kept advancing, but the suspect wouldn’t stop prompting both the officer and his wife to fire shots.
“We heard four gunshots – boom, boom, boom, boom – and we turned around to see a guy standing outside with his hands up, everything like a gun in his hand,” a witness said.
The suspect succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The incident is being investigated as an officer-involved shooting.
