American Airlines employee fatally hit by vehicle on tarmac at Charlotte International Airport

An American Airlines employee was fatally hit by a vehicle on the tarmac at Charlotte Douglas International Airport early Monday, authorities said.

The crash occurred along the airport’s on-ramp at around 9:40 a.m. Monday. First responders pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

  • Officials said the employee was struck by an airline ramp vehicle adding that there were “no significant impacts to operations.”

    “We are devastated by the accident involving a team member at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT),” the airline said in a statement.

    “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and our local team members. We are focused on ensuring that all involved have the support they need during this difficult time.”
