A Michigan mom’s charges were upgraded to open murder in connection to the death of her 2-year-old daughter.
Paige Nichole Bohne, 21, is accused of killing her toddler, Octavia, who was found unresponsive at around 12:45 p.m. Thursday at Bohne’s great aunt and uncle’s trailer home.
First responders attempted life-saving measures before pronouncing little Octavia dead at the scene.
“Octavia deserved more,” the victim’s aunt said. “I know there was many, many people that loved Octavia, and all her mom had to do was reach out to one of us.”
“Anybody would have helped instead of what happened to her.”
The mother was initially charged with involuntary manslaughter but her charges have since been upgraded to open murder.
Octavia’s aunt last saw the toddler alive the weekend before Halloween and she was the one who took the girl, dressed as a bumblebee, for a trick-or-treat trip around the neighborhood.
“She was just so excited and running up to get all the candy from all the people that were handing it out,” the relative recalled.
“She was wanting to eat the candy as fast as she got it.”
